I just realized how empowering it is to never expect people to change, be better, give— you free yourself from your dependence on them to change, and you give them the greatest insult. What’s more insulting than expecting NOTHING from someone?
And of course when and if they do change, you have the power to decide if you accept that in your life.
You no longer depend on that person for change. You no longer feel responsible.
